Summer Reading Challenge 2021: Wild World Heroes
The Summer Reading Challenge is back in libraries across the country! This year’s theme is Wild World Heroes. The FREE to join reading event started on 10th July and lasts till 5th September. It’s aimed for children aged 4 to 11 years.
How does the Summer Reading Challenge work?
One way to sign up to the challenge is to sign up via your local library. Once you’ve signed up your child to the reading challenge, they will then receive a special collectors poster showing a map of Wilderville. Kids can then borrow and read any books they want and as many books as they want. However only 2 books at a time will count towards the challenge. For the first 2 books my little girl has picked the story book “Fluffywuffy” and a factual book called “It all starts with a seed…How food grows“. A minimum of 6 books need to read to complete the challenge. Libraries recommend to borrow 2 books 3 times to complete the challenge.
Reading Rewards
After reading and returning 2 books at a time, you will receive stickers to stick on to the Wilderville sticker poster. Some stickers are scented. My girl loved scratching the stickers and smelling them. As mentined above you will have to visit the library 3 times and borrow a minimum of 2 books at a time. After completing the first 2 books, you’ll receive a Wild World Heroes book mark and sticker for the map. Once another 2 books have been completed, you’ll receive a Wild World Heroes themed fridge magnet and stickers for the Wilderville map. Upon completing the last 2 books ,your child will receive a golden Summer Reading Challenge medal, Certificate to show you’ve completed the challenge and the last stickers for the poster map.
Our thoughts of the Summer Reading Challenge
Yas signs up to the Summer Reading Challenge every year and has always enjoyed it. She loves obtaining the golden medal and the certificate at the end of the challenge, but also enjoys collecting the stickers for the poster map.
I as a parent think the Summer Reading Challenge is a free and fun way to encourage kids to read. It also gives children something to do and something to look forward to during the long summer holidays. What I also like about the challenge is, that it also encourages children to borrow books from the library even after the challenge. By borrowing books instead of buying them, we can all save lots of money and live a little greener.
If you enjoy reading books but don’t want to go to the library to borrow books, why not sign up to your local library’s digital app called BorrowBox to access 1000s of Free eBooks and audiobooks on demand?
